Services for Australians Overseas
Assisting Australians within limits
One of the main functions of the Australian Embassy is to provide a range of services (within limits) to Australians. The Consular Section (telephone 966 1 488 7788 extension 190; email reg.riyadh@dfat.gov.au) is open between 0750 and 1545 hours Saturday to Wednesday. An emergency after office hours service is available by calling the Embassy switchboard, 966 1 488 7788 for a recorded message and instructions about making contact.
With most problems we can "help you to help yourself", by providing information, advice or guidance, or we will act on your behalf if that is required. We will do whatever we can to assist in the shortest possible time. Please bear in mind that in some countries, local bureaucratic or legal processes can be slow by Australian standards.
Travel information for Australians
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade offers the latest travel advisories and other traveller hints, including to the Embassy's countries of accreditation: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen.
On-line registration for Australians overseas
We encourage use of this online registration service by Australians planning to reside overseas for extended periods, and those travelling to locations where there are security risks.
Passports
All passport applications completed online must be printed by the applicant and lodged at a passport office together with relevant supporting documents, fee, etc. There is currently no way of lodging an Australian passport application electronically (online).
Applications for passports can be completed and printed using the online passport service at www.passports.gov.au
All passport fees are payable in Saudi Riyals at the nominated exchange rate (and is subject to change) via the courier or by bank draft or bank cheque, made payable to "Australian Embassy, Riyadh". Credit cards and personal cheques will not be accepted, and no other currency is acceptable. If paying by non-Saudi bank cheque please include an additional SR45 to cover international bank charges.
