Australian Film Festival - Bahrain

The Australian Embassy has great pleasure in presenting the Australian Film Festival - Bahrain, to be held on 19 - 20 June 2008 at the Al-Jazeera Cinema Complex in Muharraq, Bahrain. The festival will showcase two of the finest products of Australian cinema, the box office hit Strictly Ballroom and the critically-acclaimed independent film Rabbit-Proof Fence, both subtitled in Arabic.

Through these films, we hope not only to introduce audiences in Bahrain to the strength of the Australian cinema industry, but, more importantly, to give them a deeper insight into Australian society. By providing Arabic subtitling on all films, we aim to make the films more accessible, and share our enjoyment with a wider audience.

Australia is a country with a great diversity of cultures, environments and experiences. Through the films we have selected, viewers may catch a glimpse of the mighty breadth of our land, from harsh deserts to lush farming land and modern metropolises. Our people are similarly diverse, and in these films, viewers will discover Indigenous Aborigines, white settlers, first-generation European immigrants and more; all characters playing a part in Australia’s history, and founding our modern society.

Admission to the films is free, and everyone is invited to attend.

The screening times are as follows:

Thursday 19 June 8:30pm Rabbit-Proof Fence
Friday 20 June 8:30pm Strictly Ballroom
